just on the nights you eat.”

WHOSE CHILD IS THIS?
Author Unknown
"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a little one out at play
"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while
To bathe his hands and comb his hair
To tell him what he is to wear
To prepare him that he may always be good
And each day do the things he should"
"Whose child is this?" I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile
"Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach him how to be gentle and kind
To train and direct his dear little mind
To help him live by every rule
And get the best he can from school"
"Whose child is this?" I ask once more
Just as the little one entered the door
"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled
And each took the hand of the little child
"Ours to love and train together
Ours this blessed task forever."

Let them inspire you to do your best. Let them prod you on to greatness."

Part of Education, according to John Dewey, is teaching values- teaching good character. Here is a quote from Dewey on values:
External opportunities so abound in American life that instead of nurturing the sources of happiness we tend to make happiness a direct pursuit; and the direct pursuit of happiness always ends in looking for happiness in possessions, in possessions of what is external, in having something whether in having a good time, having money, having a multitude of material things, or having someone else to lean upon for ideas. We pursue happiness in these external things because, I suppose, we do not really posses our own souls. We are impatient; we are hurried; we are fretful because we try to find happiness where it cannot be got. Without knowing it, we distrust that slow processes of growth, and we do not tend the roots of life from which a lasting happiness springs. { Rockefeller 354] [LW 5:421 "In Response"]
John Dewey also purported that our true vocation is learning how to live a good life.

Reading scores in the 8th gr. are declining instead of improving. Preparing for tests are working against developing a love of reading.

Reading experts maintain: The critical issue is not learning the mechanics but being able to relate to what we are reading so knowledge can expand.
We don’t read with our eyes but
with our minds.

It’s All About Character
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
